Beech. In Italy gender is represented by the only species Fagus sylvatica L. widespread in the Alps and the Apennines, where it forms pure woods (beech) or mixed (usually with Abies alba Mill., Or Picea abies Karst.), In the stations over 500 m the Alps and over 900 m above sea level Apennines.
