Vicenza, the Barche Bridge. in the foreground the river Retrone in full in 2013. The bridge was probably built in the Middle Ages, when the city had its first city wall. The name of the Pontoon Bridge comes from the fact that it was near the port where the boats unloaded the goods transported by river, then finding shelter for the night.
